When he was 13 years old, University of Texas senior finance and economics major Jaskaran Singh applied to become a contestant on "Jeopardy!"

Unfortunately for the Plano native, he didn't make the cut.

Fast forward to 2022, Singh – now 21 – has earned the distinction as the first-ever winner of the "Jeopardy! National College Championship."

Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported that the McCombs Business School student defeated Liz Feltner of Northeastern University and Raymond Goslow of Kennesaw State in the two-game, hour-long primetime final that aired on ABC on Feb. 22.

TV actress Mayim Bialik served as the hostess.

He amassed a cumulative score of $51,700 to edge out Goslow's $46,999 in the second and final game, taking home $250,000.

As the "Jeopardy!" college champion, Singh punched his ticket to the popular trivia quiz show's Tournament of Champions.

UT lit its tower in recognition of Singh's achievement, KXAN reported.

Not bad for someone who had the worst correct response percentage – 83% – among his fellow finalists.

“It feels pretty awesome," Singh, who has competed on quiz teams since high school, told the station. "It’ll definitely go a long way in paying my tuition and a lot more.”

The title joins a national championship Singh won as a student at Plano West Senior High School.

He and the UT Quiz Team have a nationals berth they hope to capitalize on this spring.

Competing on "Jeopardy!" afforded Singh the opportunity to meet new people from around the country.

As to how he wins, KXAN reported, he quipped, “I buzz in fast and know things.”
