Viva will begin nonstop flights from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU) in Mexico City starting November 20, 2025. The new service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays using Viva’s 186-seat A320 aircraft. Tickets are available for purchase at vivaaerobus.com.

Ghizlane Badawi, CEO of AUS, said, “This is another exciting expansion of Viva’s nonstop services in Central Texas. We are excited to add another way for both business and leisure travelers to get to Mexico City. We can’t thank Viva enough for their continued investment in our community.”

The addition of the NLU route means that AUS now offers daily connections to Mexico through alternating service: three times weekly to NLU and four times weekly to Monterrey (MTY). This arrangement allows travelers access not only to Mexico City but also provides connections throughout Mexico and destinations such as Colombia and Cuba.

Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus, stated, “We are thrilled to continue our expansion into Central Texas. This is a great opportunity to make tourism and trade easier. When arriving in Mexico City, travelers from AUS will also be able to enjoy direct flights to over 40 destinations, including Mexico’s biggest cities and tourist destinations. We encourage you to take advantage of our low fares, modern fleet and unmatched service to explore and get to know our country.”

NLU is promoted as an alternative airport for those traveling to or through Mexico City due to its modern facilities and efficient travel experience compared with the main MEX airport. Ground transportation options include cabs and buses with direct routes into downtown Mexico City; a train link between the airport and city is expected by December.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport serves about 20 million passengers each year and supports more than 74,000 jobs in Central Texas. The airport is currently undergoing major improvements under its Journey With AUS program aimed at enhancing passenger amenities, security screening areas, parking facilities, airline gates, and overall traveler experience.
