The latest edition of “Best Graduate Schools” from U.S. News & World Report includes the University of Texas at Austin (UT), which is represented on the prestigious list by a total of 53 graduate schools and specialty programs, per a university-issued press release.

“UT Austin is the flagship university in the state and region, as well as one of the country’s preeminent institutions for graduate studies,” President Dr. Jay Hartzell said in the release. “Our commitment to bettering life for individuals and society is evident through our continued pursuit of excellence in graduate education.”

“UT’s world-class faculty and our position within one of the world’s leading technology ecosystems in Austin help our graduate students find fulfilling career opportunities and go on to solve some of society’s most pressing challenges,” Hartzell added.

Per the release, UT has four graduate programs ranked No. 1 by U.S. News, namely: Accounting, Latin American history, petroleum engineering and sociology of population.

Six graduate colleges made the top 10, which are the School of Information at No. 5; the Cockrell School of Engineering at No. 7; the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at No. 7; the Jackson School of Geosciences at No. 7, ranked under Earth Sciences; Pharmacy at No. 7 and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at No. 10.

The university added that the McCombs School of Business fields seven specialties in the top 10 and the College of Education is represented by six programs.

Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported that UT occupies the seventh spot on the list of public and private universities with the most top 10 graduate schools, programs and specialties ranked by U.S. News.

Expert opinions and statistical indicators that gauge the quality of faculty, research and students determine the Best Graduate School rankings, U.S. News said in the release.

The national media outlet said that it used data from a few surveys given to academics and professionals in fall 2022 and earlier this year.
