Discovery to Impact at The University of Texas at Austin has launched UT Innovation Labs, a 10,000-square-foot wet lab in North Austin aimed at advancing health care and life sciences research. The facility offers private sector companies access to laboratory space and the university’s Research Core Facilities, supporting efforts to bring scientific discoveries into practical use.

“We are excited to open the doors to UT Innovation Labs and welcome the next era of innovation in Austin underpinned by UT Austin’s academic leadership,” said Mark Arnold, associate vice president, Discovery to Impact. “UT Innovation Labs serves as a launchpad for companies that are merging the power of computation and AI with the intricacies of life sciences to bring to market products and treatments that will transform health care and benefit society.”

The lab is designed to support growth in life sciences both locally and nationally. It provides direct access to resources such as the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) and faculty expertise. Companies joining UT Innovation Labs also receive business development support, technical assistance, mentorship, and educational programming through Discovery to Impact.

The facility includes advanced equipment like the Agilent Cytation C10 Confocal Imaging Reader for enhanced cell imaging and analysis. There are 33 benches equipped for cell culture and computational biology work, along with office space, meeting rooms, and a dining area.

Startups using UT Innovation Labs become part of an entrepreneurial community where they can connect with investors, industry partners, and other ventures in Austin’s life sciences sector. Discovery to Impact is seeking early-stage startups focused on challenges in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and related fields.

Discovery to Impact helps campus innovators move their ideas toward commercialization by offering support for intellectual property protection, licensing technologies, collaborative research opportunities, startup incubation spaces, entrepreneurship training programs, and access to funding such as the UT Seed Fund. The organization positions UT Austin among leading institutions nationwide for bringing new inventions and technologies to market.
