The University Interscholastic League announced its newest reclassification and realignment of districts for 2022-2024.
According to a report on KXAN, the realignment gives the Austin area three 6A districts 12-6A, 25-6A and 26-6A.
Weiss, Dripping Springs, Manor and Buda Johnson High Schools are moving up to 6A. Weiss will compete in District 12-6A, while Drippings Springs and Buda Johnson will play in District 26-6A. Manor will play in District 25-6A.
LBJ reached the 4A state championship game last year but will move up to 5A-Division 2 for the next two years. Hays High School moves from 6A to 5A-Division 1, while Lago Vista moves up to 4A-Division 2 after reaching the 3A state semifinals last year. Meanwhile, Hutto joins Weiss in District 12-6A.
As for the districts in the Austin area, District 12-6A now features, Weiss, Hutto, Bryan, Copperas Cove, Killeen, Killen Harker Heights and Temple; District 25-6A includes Vandegrift, Manor, Vista Ridge, Round Rock, Cedar Ridge, McNeil, Stony Point and Westwood, while District 26-6A has Austin, Akins, Bowie, Buda Johnson, Del Valle, Dripping Springs, Lake Travis, San Marcos and Westlake.
Westlake will feature a new head coach in Tony Salazar, who takes over for legendary head coach Todd Dodge, who retired after leading the Chaparrals to a third-straight Class 6A Division 2 state title. Westlake was 16-0 with Salazar serving as defensive coordinator.
