On Saturday, May 25, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between two vehicles in the 500 block of East Oltorf Street. As a tractor trailer made a left turn out of a shopping center, it was struck by a sedan. The driver of the sedan and one of the three passengers were transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased. The two remaining passengers in the sedan were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer remained on scene, was not impaired, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 31st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 32 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there had been 37 fatal crashes resulting in 37 fatalities.
