The Texas A&M (TAMU) Aggies baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit on Sunday to eliminate bitter rival Texas (UT) from the 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) College World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Nebraska, with a 10-2 victory, per a TAMU-issued press release that was ran by Bryan-College Station CBS affiliate KBTX.

“Horns. Go. Down,” the Aggies program’s official Twitter account proclaimed postgame

Respective losses in their opening tournament games on Friday set up the long-awaited reunion and grudge match between TAMU and UT, who are separated about 110 miles.

According to the release, junior Austin Bost triggered an Aggies four-run rally in the second inning with a leadoff double.

Fellow junior Brett Minnich then sent Bost home with a double of his own and was the tying run himself after junior Jordan Thompson knocked a single, the release said.

Sophomore Trevor Werner’s single capped the rally, the university reported.

The release said TAMU continued to do damage at the plate, adding four more runs in the next three innings.

The Aggies eventually ended the afternoon with 10 hits to match their overall number of runs.

Junior starting pitcher Micah Dallas secured the win through five innings of work that saw him fan three Longhorns and surrender two runs, per the release.

It’s the first time in half a decade the Aggies will vie for the ultimate prize, with seven overall CWS appearances under their belt, according to TAMU, Houston Daily reported.

Sunday’s victory over UT is the latest in a string of more than 370 meetings between the premier Texas schools since 1904 that’ll stretch when the Aggies and the Longhorns officially begin competition as Southeastern Conference (SEC) foes in a few years, per Houston CBS affiliate KHOU.

TAMU will face Notre Dame in another elimination game on Tuesday.
