SUV crash on South Mopac results in one death; driver arrested

On June 8, 2025, at approximately 1:36 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle crash involving an SUV near the 3300 block of South Mopac EXPY SB. The crash resulted in the death of Johan Dominguez, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Five other occupants of the SUV were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver, identified as Johnathan J. Dominguez, was arrested and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated Child Passenger. He is currently held at Travis County Jail.

The incident marks Austin’s 40th fatal crash in 2025, leading to a total of 44 fatalities this year. Comparatively, on the same date in 2024, there had been 34 fatal crashes resulting in 35 deaths.

This case remains under investigation by authorities. “These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash,” noted APD officials, adding that “fatality information may change.”
