Morgan Bassichis is set to perform "Can I Be Frank?" in a special two-night event presented by the Long Center and Fusebox. The performance pays tribute to Frank Maya, a pioneering queer comedian who was among the first openly gay comedians on network television before his untimely death from AIDS-related complications in 1995. Morgan Bassichis, known for their comedic and writing prowess, aims to honor Maya's legacy while exploring themes of fame, father figures, and humor during crises.

Helen Shaw from The New Yorker describes the show as “A bitingly funny tribute,” encouraging audiences to form their own opinions about the performance.

The Fusebox Festival, which has been a staple in Austin for over two decades with its vibrant performances and events, will transition to a biennial format. Although this change means the next festival won't occur until 2026, audiences can still enjoy performances like "Can I Be Frank?" this April.

Morgan Bassichis (they/them) is recognized for their work as a comedian and writer. Their notable works include "The Odd Years" and co-editing "Questions to Ask Before Your Bat Mitzvah." They have also been involved in various shows such as "A Crowded Field," "Questions to Ask Beforehand," and "Don’t Rain on My Bat Mitzvah."

The creative team for "Can I Be Frank?" includes direction by Sam Pinkleton, associate direction by Kedian Keohan, musical recreations by Natasha Jacobs, and scenic recreations by Eli Woods Harrison. The show was initially presented at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club with support from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant and residencies at locations including Sag Harbor, New York, and Marfa, Texas.

Special thanks are extended to Mike & Carlee Productions for their contributions.
