A composting initiative at Pease Park, managed by Alicia, the Horticulture Coordinator, has been actively contributing to environmental sustainability since December 2023. The program allows members of the PPC team who lack City of Austin composting bins to bring their compostable materials to Alicia. She then integrates these materials into the park's compost pile, which she regularly maintains. The resulting nutrient-rich soil is used in the park's garden beds.

The team has successfully contributed 715 pounds of material to this effort. By diverting food waste from landfills, they aim to reduce carbon emissions associated with waste management and enhance soil quality with rich nutrients often missing in urban environments. This practice not only benefits plant and tree health but also fosters a sense of community among participants.

Additionally, the compost pile occasionally attracts local wildlife at Pease Park, as evidenced by photographs showing critters enjoying the organic matter.
