In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Pease Park Conservancy is organizing its fourth annual MLK Day Donation Drive. The event aims to address food insecurity and provide essential items to those in need. Additionally, it serves as an opportunity for local school groups and community members to volunteer their time for a common cause.

The community is encouraged to participate by bringing donations to the picnic tables at Kingsbury Commons in Pease Park, located at 1100 Kingsbury Street. Donations will be accepted on Monday, January 20th, from 12 pm to 5 pm. Items that are most needed include peanut butter, canned chicken breast or tuna, canned low-sodium vegetables, fruits in juice, dry pinto beans, brown rice, dry pasta, nonfat dry milk powder, 100% whole grain cereal, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes, and canned entrees. All collected food items will be weighed and donated to a local food bank. Period products and diapers are also welcome and will be given to the Austin Diaper Bank.

Feeding Texas has reported that "one in six households in Texas are food insecure." The event organizers encourage participation by stating: "Let’s come together on this important day of service to help our neighbors and to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy."
