APD arrests two for organized retail theft in North Austin

On November 22, 2024, the Austin Police Department's North Metro Tactical Response Unit, in collaboration with the North Criminal Investigation Department and around 20 local retail representatives, conducted a Shoplifting Blitz operation. This initiative targeted areas including The Domain, Arbor Walk, Gateway, and Arboretum Shopping Centers in North Austin to assist retailers by addressing suspected shoplifting activities.

During the operation, officers arrested two individuals for Organized Retail Theft. At approximately 3:15 p.m., Marshall’s Loss Prevention reported two suspects inside their store displaying signs of organized theft. The suspects were observed removing anti-theft security devices and concealing stolen items such as sneakers and wallets in their clothing.

Officers apprehended the suspects as they exited the store with concealed merchandise. The arrest led to the recovery of $312.61 worth of stolen goods and tools used to remove security devices. Further investigation revealed three reusable shopping bags filled with similar stolen merchandise from Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross Department Stores in the suspects' vehicle.

The suspects were identified as Omar Cuellar Sanchez (43) and Dailena Rodriguez Herrera (27), both charged with Theft Class B. Additional merchandise recovered from their vehicle was valued at $548.79, bringing the total recovery from all three retailers to approximately $1,000.
