Austin launches decade-long plan for parks development

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has laid out a comprehensive 10-year plan to guide the development and expansion of the city's parks system. This initiative, known as "Our Parks, Our Future," was adopted by the Austin City Council on November 14, 2019. The plan outlines strategic directions for land acquisition, facility improvements, and the introduction of new programs and amenities from 2020 to 2030.

"Our Parks, Our Future" serves as a roadmap for addressing Austin's growing park and recreation needs. It takes into account challenges such as rapid population growth, increased reliance on private and philanthropic funding, and sustainable park management practices.

The planning process involves a detailed evaluation of current parks and facilities, analysis of demographic data, and a review of national trends and industry standards. Public input plays a crucial role in shaping the plan through extensive outreach to local citizens, park advocates, conservancies, neighborhood associations, nonprofit groups, and other community partners.

By incorporating public engagement alongside current needs and future trends, "Our Parks, Our Future" aims to create a vibrant and sustainable park system that will meet the demands of Austin’s expanding population over the next decade.
