Jeffrey Lewis, a songwriter and comix artist from New York City, began his musical journey in 1998 by recording homemade cassettes. His distinctive songs caught the attention of Rough Trade Records, leading to a contract in 2001. Known for his unique blend of urban indie-rock-folk, Lewis has performed globally both solo and with bandmates. He has opened for various bands including the Mountain Goats, Dinosaur Jr, and The Vaselines.
Lewis's latest official album, "Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage: Bad Wiring," was released in November 2019 under Don Giovanni Records in the USA and Moshi Moshi Records internationally. Since the pandemic began, he has self-released four DIY albums from his apartment. A new full-band studio album is expected in 2024, recorded in Nashville with producer Roger Moutenot.
Beyond music, Lewis incorporates politically subversive visual artwork into live performances. His projects have been featured on platforms like History.com; notably, "The Story of Sitting Bull" won a Webby Award for "Best Writing on the Internet" in 2011. In 2021, "The Story of Keith Haring" was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art.
As of 2024, Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage comprises Mallory Feuer on violin and keyboard, Isabel Martin on bass, and Brent Cole on drums.
