Kimmie Rhodes and Saxon Pub are hosting an event to support HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers), an organization founded by a group of women in Austin. The aim is to provide financial housing assistance for aging musicians in need.
Larry Gatlin, a prominent figure in the music industry, will be featured at this event. Born in 1948 in Seminole, Texas, Gatlin began his musical journey early on with his brothers Steve and Rudy. After attending the University of Houston on a football scholarship, where he majored in English, Gatlin's songwriting talents gained recognition within the Nashville music scene.
Gatlin's career took off as he toured solo before eventually performing with his brothers from 1976 to 1992 across various countries. During this period, they achieved numerous hits and prestigious awards. Larry Gatlin has written songs recorded by notable artists such as Elvis Presley, Glen Campbell, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Charlie Rich, Johnny Mathis, and Dottie West.
In December 1992, the Gatlin Brothers concluded their concert tours with their ADIOS TOUR. Subsequently, Larry took on the lead role in Broadway's Tony Award-winning musical "The Will Rogers Follies," which toured nationally to positive reviews.
Over the next decade, Larry wrote an autobiography titled "All The Gold In California," released a solo album called "In My Life," and occasionally performed solo tours. The brothers reunited for selective performances in the early 2000s and released new albums including "Pilgrimage" in 2008 and "The Gospel According to Gatlin" in 2015.
Larry resides in Nashville with his wife Janis of over 44 years. They have two children—Josh and Kristin—and two granddaughters—Parker and Campbell.
