Motorcycle accident on Burnet Road results in one fatality

On the evening of September 29, 2024, a traffic incident occurred in the 7500 block of Burnet Road involving three vehicles. According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded at approximately 9:11 p.m. to a crash that involved an SUV and a motorcycle initially, followed by a secondary collision with a pickup truck. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Andrew Lycan, aged 37, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI). Both drivers from the SUV and pickup truck remained at the scene following the incident.

This marks Austin's 68th fatal crash in 2024, leading to 73 fatalities. Comparatively, by this date in 2023, there were also 68 fatal crashes but with a total of 71 fatalities.

The APD has stated that these are preliminary findings from their ongoing investigation into the crash. "Fatality information may change," they noted.
