Pedestrian killed in collision on E. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at approximately 9:32 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian in the 4600 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

The pedestrian, identified as Kameron Hartman, a Black male born on August 16, 1996, was crossing midblock when he was struck by a white SUV followed by another vehicle. Hartman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the white SUV remained on site, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver of the second vehicle left the scene without stopping or calling 9-1-1.

This incident marks Austin's 66th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 71 fatalities. By this date in 2023, there had been 67 fatal crashes resulting in 70 fatalities.

"These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash," an APD representative stated. "The investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change."
