New bicycles and equipment donated to the Lorraine "Grandma" Camacho Activity Center will strengthen the City of Austin’s youth cycling programs into the next decade. Thanks to the generosity of local, regional, and national foundations, businesses, non-profits, and cyclists, replacement equipment will soon arrive at the Center. The donations will replace bicycles and equipment lost in a recent theft.

“Because of the recent surge of community support, the City's youth cycling programs are not only replacing bikes lost to theft but are also upgrading our fleet with new youth bikes and helmets,” said Angela Means, Interim Director, Parks and Recreation Department. “The generosity of these foundations, businesses, non-profits, and cyclists is akin to the Department winning a large national grant for municipal youth cycling programs.”

H-E-B, The Trail Conservancy, Guardian Bikes, Specialized Bikes, The LeadOut Foundation, Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop, and Celis Thursday Walnut Creek Meetup Group have committed funds, bikes, helmets, discounts, and services to the City’s youth cycling programs.

Each year hundreds of young Austinites learn how to ride a bike through City cycling programs. The Parks and Recreation Department thanks everyone who stepped in to help keep Austin’s young cyclists riding into the future.
