The Austin Police Department (APD) Aggravated Assault and Gang Units have been investigating a series of deadly conduct incidents that began on July 14, 2024, targeting a residence in the 2900 block of Lyons Road.

On July 14, 2024, the Austin Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting shots fired in the area of Fiesta Street and Lyons Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they were unable to locate the source of the reported gunfire. Officers were not contacted by any victims, and the caller had no other information that would have prompted further investigation.

On July 15, 2024, APD responded to another report of shots fired in the same area. Upon making contact with the complainant, responding officers identified a victim who resided in the 2900 block of Lyons Road. A deadly conduct report was filed.

On July 16, 2024, the victim reported another incident of deadly conduct to an investigator with the APD Criminal Investigations Division. At that time, three acts of deadly conduct had been committed between July 14 and July 16 during late night and early morning hours.

As the investigation proceeded, another series of deadly conducts occurred against the victim between August 8 and August 10. The incidents on August 8 and August 9 took place during late evening and early morning hours. The August 10 incident occurred during early afternoon hours in broad daylight. Additional information gathered during these incidents furthered the ongoing investigation.

On August 30, at approximately 7:50 a.m., another act of deadly conduct was committed against the victim. The APD Aggravated Assault Unit and Gang Unit mobilized immediately and were on scene within minutes. This response led to identifying a person of interest and a possible suspect vehicle.

On September 6, based on collaborative work by APD’s Aggravated Assault Unit and Gang Unit, six third-degree felony warrants were filed for Oscar Casillas, a Hispanic male aged 24.

On September 17, with assistance from the APD Tactical Intelligence Unit and United States Marshal Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, Oscar Casillas was taken into custody at his home in Austin without incident. As of this press release, Casillas is out on bond.

This case remains under investigation by the Austin Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit and Gang Unit. No further information will be released at this time.
