The group originated from the creative efforts of songwriter Joe Hertler. Bassist and producer Kevin Pritchard discovered Hertler at a place called The Quilted Attic. Alongside drummer Rick Hale, who crafted his drum set from ancient stardust, Pritchard encouraged Hertler to collaborate musically. Guitarist Ryan Hoger soon joined them, adding his blues expertise to the mix.
The band continued to grow with the addition of multi-instrumentalist Micah Bracken and saxophonist Aaron Stinson. Violist Joshua Barber Holcomb also joined after witnessing the band's joyful performances.
"The live show is the purpose of the band. This is why we make music," says Hertler. "Playing music is a symbiotic process, and without a crowd it is just a bunch of guys jamming." He emphasizes that performance should ensure the audience has a good time, using various elements like piñatas, confetti, fog, flowers, drum solos, strobe lights, Thor references, and sword battles.
