Suspect arrested in connection with fatal stabbing in Austin

On Friday, July 23, 2021, Austin 9-1-1 received a call from a victim who reported being stabbed. The victim, later identified as Nikolas Eugenio Martinez, managed to drive a short distance to a convenience store in the 2000 block of S. IH 35, where several citizens attempted to assist him. Austin Police Department (APD) officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on the scene and located Mr. Martinez with a life-threatening stab wound. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Homicide investigators and crime scene technicians responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. It was determined that Mr. Martinez had been stabbed by an unknown suspect before driving away and pulling into the Conoco gas station.

On July 24, 2021, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy. The cause of death was found to be a stab wound to the neck, and it was ruled a homicide.

On September 11, 2024, a First-Degree Murder warrant was issued for Mithovar Antoine Jr., aged 22 years. On September 12, 2024, the APD Tactical Intelligence Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Antoine in Temple, Texas on the murder warrant. He was booked into the Bell County Jail with a $150,000 bond and bonded out on September 16, 2024.
