The Austin Police Department Burglary Unit has issued a statement highlighting a pattern of burglaries targeting members of the Indian and South Asian communities during significant cultural events such as Diwali. These crimes often involve the theft of valuable gold jewelry, which holds high sentimental value and cultural significance.

"Our priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all our community members by reminding our neighbors to be vigilant and proactive to significantly reduce their risk of becoming victims of burglary," stated the department.

The department also emphasized its commitment to working with the community to address and prevent these crimes. They offered several crime prevention tips and general safety measures for residents.
