BISSELL Pet Foundation, in collaboration with the Austin Animal Center, is launching the "Empty the Shelters" reduced-fee adoption event from May 1 to 15. This initiative aims to facilitate the adoption of shelter pets by sponsoring reduced adoption fees of $50 or less per cat or dog during the event. Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "Our nation’s animal shelters are facing a capacity crisis and need your help now."

The partnership between BISSELL Pet Foundation and Austin Animal Center seeks to address the challenges faced by shelters due to a slowdown in adoptions and an increase in owner surrenders. Bissell highlighted the impact of adopting a shelter pet, noting, "Opening your home to a shelter pet saves a life and creates lifesaving space to help another pet in need."

Since its inception in 2016, the "Empty the Shelters" event has facilitated the adoption of over 226,000 pets, making it the largest funded adoption event in the country. By partnering with 742 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada, BISSELL Pet Foundation aims to encourage more families to choose adoption and provide loving homes for pets in need.

For those interested in participating in the event, Austin Animal Center will be offering fee-waived adoptions for all animals from May 1 to 15. More information can be found on their website at www.austinanimalcenter.org. Additionally, BISSELL Pet Foundation encourages families to research the pet they wish to adopt and familiarize themselves with adoption requirements.
