Investigators with the Austin Fire Department have arrested 75-year-old Dorsey Bryan Hardeman in connection with a series of arson fires in Austin. Hardeman is believed to have intentionally set fires at various locations in the city over the past few months, with his motives becoming clearer as the investigation progressed.
The first fire, which occurred on December 25, 2023, at 500 Pampa Dr., was linked to Hardeman, who was reportedly attempting to purchase the property. Subsequent fires on February 17 and 20, 2024, at 4811 S. Congress Ave were allegedly aimed at clearing the property for sale or development, according to investigators.
Through video evidence and diligent investigative work, authorities were able to identify Hardeman as the person responsible for these fires. Another fire on February 25, 2024, at 400 Nueces St. was also attributed to him after he was recognized on security footage.
Hardeman was apprehended by Austin Police on April 24, 2024, and is currently being held at the Travis County Jail. He faces serious charges, including two counts of 1st Degree Felony Arson for the S. Congress fires and one count of 2nd Degree Felony Arson for the 500 Pampa Dr. fire.
The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case, bringing closure to the affected communities and highlighting the dedication of law enforcement in tackling arson incidents.
