In a heartwarming display of community recognition, the Austin Independent School District (AISD) is celebrating the Volunteers of the Year for 2023-24. These individuals have been acknowledged for their exceptional dedication and support to their respective schools.
From Allison Elementary to Zilker Elementary, volunteers like Jessica Herrera and Tomas Ruedas from Allison Elementary, Maria del Carmen Ruiz and Reyna Cruz from Andrews Elementary, and many others have been shining examples of selflessness and commitment to the betterment of their communities.
Reflecting on the importance of mentors, the district expressed gratitude, stating, "Mentors provide guidance and support to students across AISD campuses, ranging from academic support and career guidance to helping resolve issues that impede success." The dedication of mentors like Leroy Nellis and Will Jones from Allison Elementary, Deb Libert and Elizabeth Morales from Andrews Elementary, and numerous others has not gone unnoticed.
Likewise, the role of Parent Ambassadors in fostering strong connections between home and school was highlighted. The Swantner Family and Brenda Reed from Cunningham Elementary, Lucia Gamboa and Lydia Hattrup from Travis Heights Elementary, and other dedicated Parent Ambassadors have been instrumental in creating a sense of community and involvement within the school environment.
Additionally, the district acknowledged the valuable contributions of various partners, including businesses, service organizations, educational institutions, and governmental agencies. These partners have provided crucial support through volunteers, donations, and school improvement initiatives, further enhancing the educational experience for students across AISD.
As the AISD continues to celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month, the district encourages individuals to explore volunteer and partnership opportunities to further enrich the educational journey of students.
