The City Council of Austin, Texas convened in a Work Session Meeting on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 301 W. 2nd Street, Austin, TX and via Videoconference.

Mayor Watson called the Council Meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. Council Member Harper Madison and Council Member Qadri attended virtually.

Bl. Briefing on Austin's Five-Year Financial Forecast.

Presentation was given by Ed W7an Eenoo, Chief Financial Officer, Financial Services Department, Keri Lang, Budget Officer, Financial Services Department, Erik Nelson, Division Chief, Financial Services Department; Mark Dombroski, Chief Financial Officer, Austin Energy; Joseph Gonzalez, Assistant Director, Austin Water; Jon Hockenyos, Economist.

Mayor Watson recessed the meeting at 10:59 a.m.

Mayor Watson reconvened the meeting at 11:10 a.m.

B2. Briefing on the Austin Police Department collaboration with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Presentation was given by Joseph Chacon, Police Chief, Austin Police Department, Dr. Jonathan Kringen, Analytics Strategy Officer, Austin Police Department, Steven McCraw, Director, Texas Department of Public Safety.

Direction was given to recalibrate the goals and outcomes to define success of the partnership.

Direction was given to take a broader approach with the DPS partnership. Assist on roadways that help reach the Vision Zero goals and objectives. Assist with specialty units that have been depleted due to staffing shortages.

Mayor Watson recessed the meeting to go into Executive Session at 1:59 p.m.

E. EXECUTIVE SESSION

The City Council went into Executive Session, pursuant to Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code, to receive advice from Legal Counsel, to discuss matters of land acquisition, litigation, and personnel matters as specifically listed on this agenda and to receive advice from Legal Counsel regarding any other item on this agenda.

El. Discuss legal issues related to the May 2023 election (Private consultation with legal counsel -Section 551.071 of the Texas Government Code).

Executive Session ended and Mayor Watson reconvened the meeting at 2:48 p.m.

Mayor Watson adjourned the meeting at 2:53 p.m. without objection.

The minutes were approved on this the 1st day of June 2023 on consent on a 10-0 vote. Council Member Harper-Madison was absent.
