Call to Order

Chair Fuentes called the committee meeting to order at 1:32 p.m.

Public Communication: General

There were no speakers.

Approval of Minutes

1. Approve the minutes of the August 24, 2022 regular meeting of the Austin Water Oversight Committee.

The minutes of the August 24, 2022 Austin Water Oversight Committee meeting were approved on Council Member Pool’s motion, and Mayor Pro Tem Alter’s second, on a 3-0 vote, with Vice Chair Kitchen off the dais.

Discussion and Possible Action

2. Approve the 2023 Austin Water Oversight Committee meeting schedule.

The Committee approved the 2023 meeting dates on Council Member Pool’s motion and Mayor Pro Tem Alter’s second, on a 4-0 vote, with an asterisk that the August 30, 2023 meeting date is tentative and may be subject to change, pending a possible future change to the 2023 Council meeting schedule.

Briefings

3. Update on Rain to River: A Strategic Plan to Protect Austin’s Creeks and Communities.

The Committee received a briefing from Erin Wood, Acting Watershed Planning Manager, Watershed Protection Department, with introductions from Jorge Morales, Watershed Protection Department Director and Katie Coyne, Environmental Officer and Assistant Director, Watershed Protection Department.

4. State and Regional Flood Planning Update.

The Committee received a briefing from Matt Hollon, Austin Water Wildlands Division Manager. Jorge Morales, Watershed Protection Department Director and Kevin Shunk, Floodplain Administrator, Watershed Protection Department assisted in answering questions from the Committee.

5. South Austin Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant – Capital Improvement Project. The Committee received a briefing from Charles Celauro, Austin Water Managing Engineer, Facilities Engineering, with an introduction from Shay Ralls Roalson, Austin Water Assistant Director of Engineering Services.
