U.S. Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz (R-TX) led the U.S. Senate in honoring the newly crowned World Series champion Houston Astros, per a press release from Cruz’s office in Washington, D.C.

The release said that the upper chamber of Congress approved a Cornyn and Cruz-sponsored resolution on Friday recognizing the Astros’ second Major League Baseball (MLB) championship in half a decade.

The Astros, who compiled a 106-56 regular season record before embarking on their successful Fall Classic run, defeated the Philadelphia Phillies for baseball’s top prize in six games earlier this month.

“Supporting my home team, the Houston Astros, has long been one of my favorite pastimes,” Cruz said in the release. “It was a privilege to witness the Astros secure a World Series victory once again and I am proud to congratulate them on their historic success.”

Per the release, the resolution praises the Astros’ latest accomplishment, as well as recognizes former general manager (GM) James Click though he had parted ways with the franchise.

“The Astros have inspired the people of the city of Houston, Harris County and Texas and Astros fans across the United States,” the text reads.

The resolution also hails the Phillies for their “teamwork, competitive spirit and sportsmanship” during the best-of-seven championship round.

According to Cruz’s office, the senator is the winner of a friendly pre-World Series wager between him and U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA).

A press release said that Toomey donned a Jose Altuve jersey and presented Cruz with a Wawa soft pretzel and Yuengling and Yardsbrew beer.

Had the Astros lost, the release said, Cruz would’ve awarded Toomey pecan pies from Goode Co., ice cream from Blue Bell and St. Arnold beer.
