The Austin-area teen cousin of a female soldier who was murdered at Fort Hood more than two years ago has died, according to reports from Austin-based media outlets.
Sixteen-year-old Alan Guillén succumbed to injuries he sustained on Friday in a shooting last month, per ABC station KVUE and FOX affiliate KTBC.
The Manor High School student’s death adds to the heartache and grief experienced by his loved ones since that of the late U.S. Army specialist Vanessa Guillén in the spring of 2020.
Citing a local publication, KVUE reported that the boy was allegedly shot in the head near an eatery along State Highway 71 on Oct. 24.
A male gunman was believed to have opened fire on the younger Guillén in the 1500 block of Brandt Drive, per the station.
The report said the suspect is described as a 5-foot-7, heavy-set man whose age ranges from 17 to 20 and was purportedly clad in a red hoodie and dark pants.
KTBC reported that Guillén’s death was the 61st homicide recorded in the state capital.
He had been in critical condition at Dell Seton Medical Center since the incident, per the station.
KVUE reported that the Guilléns are once again appealing for justice in the wake of another loved one’s passing.
Per KVUE, a cousin of the late teen said it was déjà vu.
"To me, it's as if the whole Vanessa story is happening again," Uriel Guillén said, the station reported. "We are trying to get answers. We are trying to get the truth. I want to let people know what happened to Alan."
