Texas’ junior U.S. senator appeared on a nationally televised talk show on Monday, maintaining that President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 general election is illegitimate, a Texas Tribune report said.
Ted Cruz fielded questions about his support for former President Donald J. Trump on ABC’s “The View” a day after he received a cold reception at Yankee Stadium during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), the publication reported.
Formerly a Trump critic, the 51-year-old Republican became one of the 45th president's fiercest defenders.
“Biden is the president today,” the senator told the panel, per The Texas Tribune. “There are a lot of folks in the media that try to, anytime a Republican is in front of a TV camera, try to say the election was fair and square and legitimate. You know who y’all don’t do that to? You don’t do it to Hillary Clinton.”
Clinton was the Democratic presidential nominee who lost the 2016 race to Trump.
The Texas Tribune reported that Cruz was among the slew of GOP leaders who called the 2020 election results into question.
Per the publication, Cruz submitted an objection to the electoral results from Arizona, one of the last states that Biden picked up, before the U.S. Capitol fell under attack on Jan. 6, 2021 and continued to oppose certification of the state’s election results after lawmakers met again.
The Associated Press (AP) reported that Cruz’s appearance on the show was disrupted by protesters protesting climate change.
Host Whoopi Goldberg implored the hecklers to stop as the senator answered a question, the AP reported.
The three women who taunted Cruz were ejected from the studio, the report said.
