Austin FC's Jon Gallagher and Damien Las partnered with Academy Sports + Outdoors earlier this month to surprise two lucky moms with $1,000 shopping sprees, according to a report from Austin ABC affiliate KVUE

The Academy Sunset Valley location hosted the Verde players and the recipients and their families, with the moms attempting to make purchases with their monetary gifts, the station reported.

The moms and their families also had the opportunity to get to know Gallagher and Las, the station reported.

"Giving back to the community means showing appreciation toward mothers and families for supporting us," Las told KVUE.

The Ireland-born Gallagher, who plays forward, came to Austin FC via trade with a 2018 Major League Soccer (MLS) Cup championship to his name and goalie Las joined Verde following a stint across the pond with Fulham Football Club.

The station reported that the club and Academy additionally surprised 10 random moms in the store with gift cards worth $100.

"We are giving out gift cards to mothers in celebration of Mother's Day and all that they do for their kids," Gallagher told KVUE.

One of MLS's newest franchises, Austin FC, which began play last year, is currently the second-best team in the Western Conference with a 6-2-2 record and 20 points accumulated as of Friday (May 13).

The team rode a four-game winning streak until its match against L.A. Galaxy on Mother's Day, according to Austin NBC affiliate KXAN.

Verde hadn't lost in two months before it fell 1-0 to the Galaxy, per the station.

The club faces Real Salt Lake on the road on Saturday (May 14).
