The Austin music scene is mourning the loss of one of their own, 29-year-old Nané lead vocalist Daniel Sahad. According to reports from local media outlets and the band itself, Sahad died on Sunday (April 10).
Sahad's bandmates made the heartbreaking announcement on Facebook.
"It is with unbelievable pain that we have to share our beautiful leader, Daniel Sahad, passed away last night," they wrote. "Please give his family and friends the space they need to process this tragedy. Thank you all."
Austin Mayor Steve Adler led the city in remembering Sahad, who formed Nané with guitarist Ian Green in 2016 while they attended the University of Texas.
"[Austin] City Council was excited to have live music back in chambers last week for the first time since before the pandemic, and Nané was a great choice," Adler tweeted. "This is very sad news. Our thoughts go out to Daniel's family and the band today."
Austin ABC affiliate KVUE reported that fans and Sahad's counterparts expressed their sadness and condolences online.
Local musician Nakia called Sahad "a beautiful light of music and love" while the Texas Music Office lamented the "tragic loss" of "an enormous talent," according to the station.
Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported that the Austin Economic Development Department issued a proclamation in honor of Nané last Thursday (April 7).
According to KXAN, the band released its self-titled debut album in 2020.
The album featured the song “Always On My Mind,” which has accumulated nearly three million streams on Spotify, per the station.
