The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently apprehended 42-year-old Dallas resident Royneco Tiun Harris, who occupied the No. 1 spot on the Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List, according to a press release.

The state law enforcement agency said that its special agents arrested Harris in Dallas on March 23 with help from the Texas Highway Patrol, the Dallas Police Department (DPD) and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. DPS said in the release that no Crime Stoppers monetary award will be paid.

"Harris had been wanted since October 2021," DPS said in the release.

Harris was on trial for a 2019 fatal shooting that killed a man and injured the decedent's child, according to the release.

Authorities alleged that Harris disabled his GPS monitoring device and fled, prompting the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) to execute arrest warrants for him.

The release said Harris was convicted in absentia and sentenced to 99 years in prison.

Harris, whom DPS added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List last month, has numerous weapons violations, the release said.

He was arrested for violating his violation on federal charges.

According to DPS, he was convicted twice in the last half-decade of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

The release said that DPS arrested 15 individuals whose names were added to the most wanted fugitives or sex offenders lists so far this year, among them five gang members and nine sex offenders.

More than $30,000 had been awarded in exchange for the tips that resulted in these arrests.
