Austin FC's second year of existence began with a bang as MLS's youngest franchise blanked FC Cincinnati 5-0 at home on Feb. 26.

"No better way to start year two," Austin FC's official Twitter account declared postgame.

Austin FC imposed its will early in the match by notching two goals in the first 15 minutes, MLS.com reported.

Verde midfielder Cecilio Domínguez scored the club's first goal of the 2022 season after the first two minutes elapsed.

A dozen minutes later, team captain Alex Ring knocked in the second of Austin FC's five goals of the day, a damp and chilly affair at Q2 Stadium.

MLS.com reported that forward Sebastián Driussi's goal pushed Verde's lead to 3-0 at the break, and Dominguez's second goal at the 62-minute mark put the match away for the home team.

A goal toward the end of the game gave Verde its first five-goal regular-season game in franchise history, according to the website.

The five-goal fiesta is Austin FC's first season-opening win.

After dropping a 2-0 decision to Los Angeles FC last April to begin its inaugural season, Verde recorded its first-ever win, a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids.

Midfielder Diego Fagúndez tallied the team's first goal at the 60-minute mark of the game.

It wasn't until the start of July when Austin FC won its first game at Q2, a 4-1 win over the Portland Timbers. The club finished 2021 with a 9-4-21 record.

Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported that Verde will face Inter Miami on the road in a matinee match on March 6 at 3 p.m.

ESPN will broadcast the game.
