The University of Texas has landed a verbal commitment from Spearman senior star receiver Brenen Thompson.

After also being recruited from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Stanford and Texas A&M, Brenen intimated the final decision was an easy one.

“My favorite things about Texas are the coaching staff and culture,” he told 247Sports.com. “The offense as well."

With the 5-foot-10-inch, 165-pound speedster (10.3 in the 100-meter dash) in the fold, coach Steve Sarkisian’s latest recruiting class jumps all the way to No. 2 nationally in the 247 Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. Individually, Thompson is the rated the No. 11 wide receiver in the class and No. 87 prospect overall.

The official visit to the Longhorns campus the weekend of Sept. 18 sealed the deal.

“The environment of Austin during game day was awesome,” Thompson said. “As always the coaching staff treated me like family and I’m excited about what they have going on!”

Thompson adds to a class that also includes burners Jamarion Miller and Jaydon Blue, all of whom will ultimately team with freshmen Xavier Worthy to give Sarkisian the “all gas, no brakes” offense he envisions for the Longhorns.

“The kid can take the top off any defense,” Spearman head coach Aaron Witten added of Thompson. “He reminds us a lot, from a size and speed perspective, of Hollywood Brown, who plays for the Ravens. You’re able to take the talent he has with the other talent they have and it’s pretty scary.”

Thompson said Texas felt like home from the moment he made his official visit.

“Everything I have is there, and everything I want is there,” he said. “(Sarkisian) is very honest across the board, and has always treated me and my family like family.”
