Former Lake Travis quarterback Charlie Brewer has left the Utah Utes football program.
KXAN reported that Brewer, who also played for Baylor for four seasons prior to enrolling at Utah, “decided to move on” after starting under center in the Utes’ first three games of the season.
"Charlie has decided to move on and we wish him the best,” CBS Sports quoted Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham as saying.
In the brief time he served as Utah's field general, Brewer threw for 484 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions on nearly 61% passing.
Former Texas quarterback Cameron Rising, whom Brewer beat out for the starting job before the season, is now the starting signal-caller for the Utes.
Rising stepped in for Brewer in the Sept. 18 triple-overtime loss to San Diego State in which the latter threw an interception, KXAN reported.
CBS Sports reported that Brewer hasn’t used his redshirt year in any of his five collegiate seasons, enabling him to enter the transfer portal and suit up for a new school in 2022.
As a high school senior in 2016, Brewer led the Cavaliers to their sixth state championship.
