The City of Austin is teaming with Safe2Save to host a competition where safe drivers have the chance to cash in.

According to the city's website, residents can win up to $10,000 in cash and prizes during the month-long competition by not using their phones while behind the wheel. At the end of the competition, all drivers posting a score of 98 or better will be entered into a drawing to win prizes that include $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third.

In addition, a single winner will have the chance to win $500 during every week of the competition, with all the prizes being supplied by Farm City through a grant from State Farm Insurance.

SAFE 2 SAVE is a mobile app that rewards users for driving undistracted. When using the app, drivers traveling over 10 mph will receive a score based on the number of times they come into contact with their phones. The fewer times a participant comes into contact with their phone the higher their score stands to be.

To enter the competition, participants can download the free app (available on iOS and Android) called SAFE2SAVE. Enter the competition code: AUSTIN2021. Turn the app on before beginning driving and start earning rewards immediately for free and discounted items at popular restaurant chains and local merchants.

The Austin Transportation Department also leads the city’s Vision Zero program, where the goal is to reduce the number of people hurt or killed by crashes to zero with street improvements, policy changes and education.
