Vandegrift's secondary is expected to be among the toughest this season with the return of Bucknell lacrosse commit and senior cornerback Griffin Shaffer.
According to Austin American-Statesman, in his junior season of 2020, the 5-foot-8-inch, 170-pound Shaffer logged 86 tackles, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries to earn second-team all-district honors.
Last year Shaffer took to Twitter to announce his commitment to play lacrosse at Bucknell.
"I am thrilled and excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 lacrosse at Bucknell University," Shaffer wrote in a Twitter post last November. "I would like to thank my friends, parents, teammates, coaches and most importantly God who have helped me along the way. Go Bison!!"
As a lacrosse player, Shaffer won 86% of his faceoffs and recorded 13 goals, 10 assists and 213GBs, according to SportsRecruits.
Shaffer was named to the THSLL All State team for Face Off and was recognized as a U.S. Lacrosse All American and team MVP. He was also named MVP for middies at the NXT Summer Showcase in Philadelphia in 2019.
Shaffer and fellow senior cornerback Jaxon Oliver are considered District 25-6A's top cover duo, Austin American-Statesman reported.
Standing at 6 foot 3 inches, 175-pound Oliver logged 45 tackles and three interceptions in 2020 is particularly effective on deep balls.
