Austin FC’s No. 1 fan rolled out the welcome mat for its newest signee forward Sebastian Driussi.

Responding to a tweet from the MLS franchise that showed the 25-year-old Driussi on top of a high-rise in Downtown Austin, Mayor Steve Adler simply had three words.

“Welcome to Austin,” Adler tweeted on July 29.

MLS’ website reported that the Argentine forward came to Austin FC by way of Russian Premier League giants Zenit St. Petersburg, who let him go through a contract buyout.

Terms of Driussi’s deal with Austin were not disclosed.

Before suiting up for Zenit for four years, Driussi played for Argentina’s Club Atlético River Plate and its youth national teams.

Driussi registered 24 goals and 22 assists in 138 appearances with Zenit, which is music to the ears of an Austin squad seeking help with its struggling attack.

KXAN reported that the team has been unable to score a goal in eight of its last 10 matches.

“We needed extra creativity, extra punch and that’s exactly what Sebastian brings,” Austin FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna told the station. “He’s that person that will unlock the defense, but he also works really hard with the team. It is pressure, but it’s a nice kind of pressure.”

Driussi is Austin’s third DP alongside fellow Argentinian Tomás Pochettino and Cecilio Domínguez.

With Driussi and the addition of Moussa Djitté as the club’s third U-22 initiative player, Austin has plugged in all three DP roster slots and all three U-22 initiative roster slots, KXAN reported.

Founded in 2018, Austin is in its inaugural season.

With a 3-4-7 record as of July 31, the team occupies the cellar of the Western Conference.
