Single-vehicle collision results in death at FM 973 and Spirit Drive

On July 5, 2025, at approximately 9:31 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection of FM 973 and Spirit Drive. The driver involved in the crash was pronounced dead at the scene and remains unidentified.

This incident marks Austin’s 50th fatal crash of the year, resulting in a total of 54 fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2024, there were 40 fatal crashes leading to 42 deaths.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing, and details regarding the fatality may change as more information becomes available.
