A recent poll shows that most Americans believe parents should take action to oppose critical race theory if it is present in their children’s schools.

Critical race theory has been a hot button issue across the nation, with Texas no exception after the 87th Legislature passed a ban on the ideology in K-12 schools during the regular legislative session.

The theory was added to the agenda during a Special Session called by Gov. Greg Abbott.

“The 87th legislative session was a monumental success for the people of Texas, but we have unfinished business to ensure that Texas remains the most exceptional state in America,” Abbot said.

A survey was conducted by the Trafalgar Group, in conjunction with the Convention of States Action, that surveyed 1,091 likely general election voters on their views regarding the theory.

The poll finds that about half of Americans believe that parents who oppose critical race theory in their children’s schools should take action against it, with 51.8% backing action.

However, the survey also found that there wasn’t a consensus on what action to take with 27.7% supporting removing a child from school and 24.1% saying that parents should run or support candidates for school board that would take control of the school’s governing body.

The results were clearly split by party, with Republicans being the most likely to support action against the theory and 71.3% of GOP aligned respondents supporting action, compared to only 38.5% of Democrats and 43.7% of Independents or third party respondents backed action.

The Convention of States Action is a grassroots political organization with over five million supporters across the United States whose objective is on calling an Article V Convention of the States to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The organization only promotes amendments which would impose limitations on the size and scope of the federal government.

The Trafalgar Group is a public polling and market research firm that Real Clear Politics called the “most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple Senate and governor races” this year.
