On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at approximately 5:59 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 36th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 37 fatalities for the year. On the same date in 2023, there were 49 fatal crashes resulting in 49 fatalities.

The statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
