A skyscraper that’s being built in Downtown Austin now has a name, per Austin-based media outlets.
Located at 98 Red River St., the newly christened Waterline is being touted as the next structure to be the tallest in the city and the State of Texas.
Austin FOX affiliate KTBC reported that the 74-story office building will rise 1,022 feet upon completion, beating Houston’s JPMorgan Chase Tower by 20 feet.
Lincoln Property Company (LPC) and Kairoi Residential are behind the project, per the station.
LPC’s Seth Johnson said in a press release obtained by KTBC that people will not only look up at the Waterline but they’ll also look down on what’s going on in the Lone Star State.
“Waterline marks a new milestone for downtown not only because of its height, but also because of the positive impact this project will have on improving connectivity, enhancing public amenities and attracting more people to this beautiful area of downtown,” Johnson said in the release.
Austin NBC affiliate KXAN reported that aside from the unveiling of the hotel-office-residential tower’s name, its developers said the project included a seven-figure donation to the adjacent trail system.
“Downtown Austin offers one of the most dynamic markets and skylines in the nation, and we’re excited to help drive its ongoing transformation,” Johnson said, according to the station.
Austin ABC affiliate KVUE reported that the 1 Hotel Austin will occupy the Waterline’s first 13 floors with its 251 rooms while the top 33 floors will consist of 352 luxury apartments.
LPC and Kairoi Residential are working to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for the project, KVUE reported.
