Motorcyclist dies in collision at West Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 9:57 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between an SUV and a motorcycle at the intersection of West Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive. The motorcyclist, identified as Samantha Spears, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver and passengers of the vehicle remained on scene, were not injured, and are cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 41st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 43 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, there had been 51 fatal crashes resulting in 51 fatalities.

These statements are from the initial assessment of the fatal crash, and the investigation is still pending. Fatality information may change.
