Though the majority of Texas residents support the COVID-19 vaccine, a recent study suggests many American supporters firmly oppose negative commentary about those who have chosen not to get vaccinated.
The President of Convention of States Action (COSA), Mark Meckler, also disagrees with the vaccinated public shaming the group’s decision, stating that “name-calling citizens who choose not to be vaccinated is immoral and dangerous, and now we know it also doesn’t work.”
The Trafalgar Group survey, conducted in collaboration with the Convention of States Action, garnered responses from 1,085 Americans. The data suggests that the majority of Americans did not agree with public figures shaming those who have chosen not to get vaccinated. An overwhelming 59.8% disapproved of the shaming, while only 23.7% approved.
The poll also indicates that much of the 63.74% fully vaccinated Travis County residents, as reported by the Texas Department of Health & Human Services, form part of the group disagreeing with those who shame the uninoculated group, while some of the 74.05% county residents with only one dose agree.
Despite a significant range between the results of varying political parties, all groups contributed to the majority disagreeing with those who haven’t been vaccinated. Approximately 77.7% of Republicans, 40.5% of Democrats and 61.4% of third-party and independent respondents disagreed with the decision, Trafalgar reports.
“Once again, Washington, D.C. and its allies in big business and big media are hugely out-of-step with the overwhelming sentiments of the American people across all political parties and perspectives,” Meckler said.
The ratio drafted from the survey responses correlates with Meckler’s concern that the increasing opposition between the two groups fails to serve as a beneficial solution for the recent acceleration of COVID-19 cases.
“And, unfortunately, relying on leaders with common sense in our nation’s capital to take a stand isn’t getting the job done,” Meckler said. “The American people must rise up at the local and state level, and continue to demand that their representatives in their own states and communities do right by them.”
As a grassroots political organization, the Convention of States Action has garnered approximately 5 million supporters through its efforts to propose amendments that impose limitations on the power of the federal government. Collaborating with the efforts as a research firm specializing in public polls and various other forms of market research, Trafalgar Group is referred to as the “most accurate pollster of the cycle among those firms that polled multiple Senate and governor races” this year.
