The Mayor’s Health and Well-Being Council (MHWC), in collaboration with Austin Public Health (APH), is accepting applications for workplaces to attain MHWC Partner Certification. The application period for certified organizations to receive recognition as one of the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplaces in Austin is currently open.

According to a press release, the MHWC’s Workplace Partner Certification program recognizes organizations committed to implementing best practices that enhance health and well-being within their workplaces. The program acknowledges efforts towards promoting healthy nutrition, physical activity, tobacco-free living, and health education. It also commends initiatives offering workers preventative services, policies, and programs. Certified workplaces are also eligible to compete for the Mayor’s Healthiest Workplaces title.

As per the MHWC website, applications for Partner Certification and Healthiest Workplaces Awards will be accepted until July 31, 2024. The awards program consists of two categories: organizations (up to 250 employees, 251-1,000 employees, 1,001-5,000 employees, and 5,000+ employees) and school district/government organizations. Recipients will be honored at the Mayor’s Health & Well-Being Awards Ceremony held in September during Texas Obesity Awareness Week.

The press release further reveals that starting from 2024, the program will also recognize faith community partners who have achieved health and wellness goals. Interested participants will receive technical assistance from APH to establish and meet their objectives.

According to another press release, the MHWC was established in 2004 as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with an aim to make Austin the healthiest community in the country. This objective is pursued by fostering community connections and partnerships while supporting the implementation of best practices and programs designed to improve well-being.
