Michelle Garcia, a senior at Manor High School, has won first place in Huston-Tillotson University’s Spring 2025 High School Writing Competition for her piece titled “Seclusion.” She will receive a $1,000 prize for her achievement.

Manor Independent School District (ISD) students accounted for the majority of submissions to the contest, making up 83% of all entries. Several other students from the district received Honorable Mentions and were awarded $100 each.

Garcia was recognized during the December Board meeting, where trustees commended her creativity and effort. Huston-Tillotson University is also scheduled to present awards to the students in person.
