Manor High School students Laila Stark and Kayla Garcia qualified earlier this year for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Championship, according to a May 22 announcement. The two student-athletes advanced after strong performances during the season and at regional competitions.
Qualifying for the state meet is considered a significant achievement as powerlifting becomes increasingly competitive across Texas. Their advancement reflects their hard work, determination, and dedication throughout the season.
Manor Independent School District supported students in pursuing college-level athletics with annual signing opportunities, according to the official website. The district also encouraged community involvement through student-led initiatives focused on positive contributions, operated eight elementary schools, three middle schools, one PreK-8 campus, three high schools and one alternative learning campus, received recognition as a District of Distinction in visual arts from the Texas Art Education Association, served more than 10,000 students across 15 campuses, and focused on providing equitable, high-quality education to support each scholar’s development—all according to the official website.
The success of Stark and Garcia highlights both individual commitment and broader district efforts to promote academic and extracurricular excellence. As participation in competitive sports continues to grow within Manor Independent School District, achievements like these may inspire other students across its campuses.
