Long Center to screen award-winning documentary ‘Nocturnes’ with expert Q&A

The Long Center for Performing Arts will host an event in partnership with The University of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences, featuring a screening of the documentary “Nocturnes” on October 21. This event is part of the Reel Science film series, which aims to connect audiences with scientific topics through film and discussion.

“Nocturnes,” produced by Sandbox Films, received the 2024 World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Craft. The documentary explores nocturnal life in the Eastern Himalayas, focusing on moths and their role within a unique ecological region located between India and Bhutan. The film follows two observers as they study these creatures during nighttime expeditions.

Following the screening, there will be a question-and-answer session with entomologists Alex Wild and Joanne Holley. Pre-show activities are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., with the main screening starting at 7:00 p.m. The audience Q&A is set for 8:25 p.m.

Sandbox Films is known for producing documentaries that highlight scientific discovery and inquiry.
