The Long Center for Performing Arts, in partnership with The University of Texas at Austin College of Natural Sciences, is launching a film series that features presentations from researchers and experts. Each event in the series will include an in-person talk and a documentary produced by Sandbox Films, known for its science-themed productions.

One of the featured documentaries, “How Deep Is Your Love,” follows biologists as they investigate the deep sea, which covers 70% of Earth’s surface. The film documents their discoveries of unique creatures and ecosystems that exist without sunlight. It also addresses concerns about the potential impact of deep-sea mining on these environments.

The film aims to highlight both the fascination and urgency surrounding ocean exploration. According to organizers, it encourages viewers to consider how society should balance resource extraction with protecting fragile ecosystems.
